Richard Schofield is an associate at Watt Tieder’s McLean, Virginia office. He joined Watt Tieder as an associate after having clerked for the firm as a summer associate in 2023.

Richard graduated summa cum laude from William & Mary Law School. In law school, Richard participated in nationwide competitions as a member of the school’s Alternative Dispute Resolution Competition Team and served as the Managing Editor of William & Mary’s Journal of Race, Gender, and Social Justice. Additionally, as a William & Mary Legal Practice Program Fellow, he taught research, writing and oral practice skills to his fellow students. Richard also gained valuable federal court experience through his internships with the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, Norfolk Division, as well as the Richmond Division of the Federal Public Defender’s office.

Upon graduation from law school, Richard clerked for the Honorable Stuart A. Raphael of the Court of Appeals of Virginia, where he assisted extensively in handling the Court’s expanded criminal and civil appellate docket.
