Evan Kappatos is an associate in Watt Tieder’s McLean, Virginia office, where his practice focuses on construction litigation, government contracts, and suretyship law.  He joined Watt Tieder in 2022 after having clerked for the firm as a summer associate.

Evan has represented clients in disputes arising from a wide range of construction projects, including highways, railways, utility infrastructure, and data centers. His experience includes matters involving design defects, pass-through claims, and False Claims Act litigation. As part of his practice, Evan regularly manages complex discovery issues and secures successful outcomes in pre-trial motions. He works closely with clients to navigate the legal and strategic complexities of each matter, tailoring his approach to meet the particular demands of high-stakes litigation in a cost-efficient manner.

In addition, Evan has handled indemnity and complex bond claim disputes arising from the construction of commercial buildings and large-scale apartment complexes. His work in this area includes advising sureties and contractors on performance and payment bond obligations, as well as defending and prosecuting claims involving construction delays and disruptions, design and defect disputes, and default terminations.

Evan earned his J.D. from William & Mary Law School in 2021. While in law school, he was a member of the William & Mary Environmental Law and Policy Review and competed on the school’s National Trial Team as well as the Alternative Dispute Resolution Team.  Prior to attending law school, Evan worked in outside sales at a Fortune 500 company, where he gained firsthand experience in client service, negotiation, and business operations, which are skills that continue to inform his legal practice today.
